The Long View · No. 50: When a decision has not reached the work

Sometimes a decision is clear in the minutes but difficult to find in the life of the organization.

The same priorities remain on every list. Calendars do not change. Budgets continue reflecting yesterday's commitments. People hear that a new direction matters, but they cannot see what should be done differently on Monday.

This is not always a communication problem. It may be a translation problem.

People need help connecting a decision to their actual responsibilities. They also need permission to ask what will stop so the new commitment has room to become real.

Choose one important decision this week and follow it into the work. Where should it be visible by now? Where is the old direction still organizing people's time?

A decision becomes credible when people can experience its consequences.

With steady attention,

Kevin
