The Long View · No. 49: After the decision, the real work begins

A leadership team can spend weeks reaching a decision. When the meeting ends, everyone feels relief. The hard part appears to be over.

Often, it is only beginning.

A decision made in one room still has to become understandable to everyone else. People need to know what has changed, what has not, and what the decision now asks of them.

When that work is skipped, leaders may interpret confusion as resistance. But people may simply be trying to locate themselves inside the new direction.

This week, revisit one decision your organization has already made. Do the people carrying it understand what it means for their work?

The next act of leadership may be helping a shared decision become shared reality.

With care,

Kevin
