Authority often comes with a title.
Influence comes from trust.
I have watched leaders with enormous authority struggle to move a room. I have also watched leaders with no formal power shape outcomes simply by how they listen and speak.
Influence grows when people feel seen.
When decisions feel grounded.
When leadership feels steady rather than reactive.
Influence is not built through control.
It is built through presence.
Here is the question I often ask leaders quietly:
Do people follow you because they have to, or because they trust you?
That question has a way of clarifying everything.
