The Long View · No. 53: The work that accumulates between people

Every organization carries work that never appears on a project plan.

It is the energy spent wondering what someone meant. The carefully worded email because trust has become thin. The extra checking people do when roles are unclear.

Over time, this unfinished relational work becomes operational weight. Decisions take longer. Small misunderstandings travel farther. Capable people spend their attention managing uncertainty rather than serving the mission.

This week, notice where your team is compensating. Where are people guessing, protecting, checking, or quietly working around one another?

One honest conversation may not solve everything. But it can return energy to the work that matters.

With care for the people and the work,

Kevin
