The Age of Artificial Intelligence and the End of Expert Certainty
Artificial Intelligence has commoditized information. What remains rare is discernment.
You’ve probably felt it: more insight than ever, but less inner peace. You’re doing everything right and still wondering why clarity feels out of reach.
AI can produce a strategy, a sermon, or a staff plan in seconds - making expertise nearly obsolete. But expert information without wisdom only multiplies noise. What leaders need now is not more content and expertise - clarity that can be lived is what they long for.
Movement One - Listening
We live in a time when anyone can ask an Artificial Intelligence for a ten-step plan to do anything. Strategy has become a search term. Information has become a commodity. A consultant who offers expert certainty is losing their value proposition. And QUICKLY.
But clarity - real clarity - isn’t downloaded. It’s discerned. That's what process consultants are so good at in their work with clients!
When I sit with an executive team or board, I notice the same pattern. They have more information than ever and less alignment than ever. The data is sharp; the relationships are dull. Everyone has the map, but no one knows where they actually are.
So I ask a different kind of question: What’s true right now? Not what’s trending. Not what you wish were true. What’s alive in this moment of your mission, your team, your leadership?
AI can process complexity. Only humans can process pain. Listening is the act that makes space for both.
Movement Two - Clarifying
The problem we face a leadrs today isn’t access to information. It’s discernment. AI will give you every possible answer, but wisdom and an expert guide will tell you which answer is yours.
When I work with organizations, we don’t start by downloading more reports. We start by helping them name what’s essential by asking awesome questions like:
What’s worth protecting?
What’s ready to change?
What story is your work telling without words?
We clarify not by adding expertise, but by subtracting - cutting away the noise until the heartbeat of purpose returns. That's the power of withness and a major league value add.
What if clarity doesn’t come from what you know? What if it comes from what you’re finally willing to say out loud?
Movement Three - Aligning
Once clarity appears, alignment begins to follow. This is where teams rediscover shared courage.
Artificial Intelligence can categorize information; it cannot create coherence. Coherence happens when a group of humans agrees on what they love.
In one nonprofit I worked with, alignment came not from another survey or metric but from one quiet conversation. A staff member said, “I think we forgot who we’re doing this for.” That sentence changed everything.
Alignment doesn’t always start with strategy - it carats with being present - with ourselves and with each other.. Sometimes it starts with shame or sorrow. Once the truth is spoken, the team can begin to move together again.
Movement Four - Embodying
Artificial Intelligence can simulate empathy, but it cannot sustain it. Humans are the only technology capable of transformation.
Clarity becomes real when it’s lived. The future you’re building doesn’t become believable until it’s embodied in relationships and rhythms.
That’s the power of withness that I have been talking about for year now - when clarity stops being a message and starts being a manner of presence. It’s where the future moves from the abstract to the incarnate. From information to incarnation. From “the plan” to “the people.”
A Last(ing) Thought
In a world that automates answers, few leaders pause to listen for truth. Those who do become the rare voices others trust. If your team is drowning in data but starving for direction, this is your invitation to rediscover clarity that feels human again.
This is the kind of work we’ll do together. Call me to talk more!
I believe in you - and hope you do too.
May your WITHNESS be your superpower today.
